What is your policy regarding discipline?
The word discipline comes from the word disciple meaning "learner" in Latin. Discipline, at our school, means to teach. When a child needs discipline, we do it in a loving, guiding way that allows the child the room to learn. Techniques include redirection, equipping the child with words that are more useful, and modeling empathy. On occasion, a child will need a moment to regroup. We sit with the child and allow them the time to calm down and talk about the incident. No corporal punishment will be used and all correction is firm but loving. Rules apply equally to all and are explained to children. Children are expected to treat each other, staff members, and our classroom environment with respect and care.

How do I dress my child?
Please be aware that children come to preschool to experience hands-on activities. We encourage creativity and exploration which can be messy. We attempt to protect your child's clothing but we cannot guarantee that accidents will not happen. Please keep this in mind as you dress your child. Play clothes that fit the weather are appropriate. Shoes should be closed-toed and rubber soled for safe running, jumping, and playing. Please put your child's name in jackets. We ask for a complete change of clothes to be kept at school just in case.

How are birthdays celebrated?
The birthday child is celebrated at snack with a special crown and friends singing happy birthday. Parents are welcome to bring a special treat for your child's class. Please notify the teacher a few days in advance. We recommend simple, individual, easy to serve treats appropriate for 2-5 year olds.

Are children permitted to bring toys from home?
In general, bringing toys from home is discouraged as toys can easily be lost or broken. In addition, our preschool has a culture of sharing our toys and this can be difficult and confusing if the toy does not belong to the preschool. We do have designated Share Days where children are encouraged to bring something from home to tell about at circle time. We will also work with an individual child where a "transitional item" is helping with separation.

Do you offer early drop-off or late pick-up?
As we are a Preschool and not a day-care we do not offer these options. It is important for community building and easy transitions to drop your kids off with the rest of the students. As our students are still so young, it is important that you are prompt for pick-up. Your child is eager to see you again and being the last at pick up causes undo stress. In addition, most of our teachers are also mothers and have their own children that deserve their prompt arrival. We are not staffed or equipped to accommodate either option on a regular basis. We ask for a phone call if a situation arises so we can make arrangements to accommodate.
